Chilled cast material is the industry standard for quality OHC performance cams. It is perfectly suitable for most applications, including the ALH TDI. However, PD engines [like BEW, BHW, BRM , PD130, PD150] subject cams to unique stresses that require, at a minimum, a special forged cam. Our COLT cams are fully machined from forged steel billets. The resulting product is stronger, harder, and tougher than the cam that came in your car from the factory.


These new-from-billet COLT pumpe duse (PD) cams are superior to any oem or oem-style aftermarket replacement camshaft.

The original equipment Pumpe Duse camshafts, in particular, have developed a reputation for premature wear. While the oils used, cold starts, and other user-dependent variables can influence the life of your Pumpe duse camshaft, many if not most of the premature failures can be traced to what many consider to be an inherently flawed design. In fact, most of our customers didn't come looking for a performance cam, but instead find us after they discover they need to replace it out of necessity!


One problem: OEM style PD cams have a severe initial ramp angle that exacerbates the problems inherent in the shallow hardness depth found in the OEM cams and oem-style replacements. COLT optimizes the cam lobe geometry to reduce the high loads in this area of the cam profile. COLT pioneered this often-copied innovation, which can't be found in an OEM-spec cam! (or "regrinds" of an OEM cam)


Also consider: Our Colt Cams start as a solid forged blank (or "billet" if you will) with inherently superior metallurgy. The "budget" aftermarket OEM oem-style replacements (and any regrinds based on them) are based on cheap to manufacture, but much less durable, chill cast materials. In the PD cars, chilled cast cams will not provide the long service life that TDI owners have come to expect, because any hardness is only "skin deep". By comparison: The base metal used in Colt cams is already tougher than oem, and induction hardening, to a depth of several times that found in other cams, ensures unrivaled wear characteristics. Although others may offer extra-cost "add-on" treatments as a way to compensate for the soft materials, all of our new from billet Colt Cams come with superior materials and hardened surfaces at no extra cost.

TO DETERMINE IF YOU HAVE 1 or 2-Hole Fuel filter, the easiest method is to look at the fuel filter housing located right ahead of the washer fill. If the part number on the housing ends in 400F you have the Early 2-hole filter. If the part number ends in 400K you have the Late 1-hole filter.

Cam Lube on all lobes, lifter faces, distributor gears and oil pump gears.
Oil all bearing journals and lifter barrels.
Always turn engine over by hand before starting, check for clearances and
proper timing location.
Fire up to 1800 - 2000 r.p.m. for 18 - 20 minutes.




Here are DIY instructions on how to replace a camshaft with worn lobes on your PD pumpe duse TDI engine in Jetta TDI, Golf, New Beetle, or Passat TDI.  You also have to repair bad or broken lifters during this replacement procedure.

Replaced my old worn out BRM camshaft with this Colt Cam Stage 2. Between the links to myturbodiesel.com and KermaTDI selling everything that I needed I was able to replace the camshaft in my garage and had zero issues. I have over 2,000 miles on the camshaft now and have seen an increase of 5 MPG with the new camshaft and lifters. Would highly recommend this product for anyone with a BRM engine.

Have bought 2 of these car does not smoke gets 45 plus miles to gallon in the winter. Don't understand why VW don't have these installed in there motors at the factory.

This was the first time I ever repaired a modern automobile, and with great success. I purchased the camshaft along with the cam kit, tool kit, and timing belt kit since I was removing it anyway and it was overdue. My order arrived complete and on time. The fit bolted on the same as OEM. The finish and quality was far better than VW's pot metal and made for an easy install. This is a 5 star rating for sure. My only complaint was that I thought I had all the tools to do the job, but had to shop the town for triple squares in the middle of my install. I alone made this 1day job a 2-1/2 day job. You do offer the tools needed for camshaft replacement. I wished you offered them as an option with the kit you sell.

BRM inevitably have their cam issues but colt cams has proved to go above OEM standards taking their pride in what they do to create a more thorough heat treating process. Kerma is the only US retailer and they back colt with a 3 year warranty unlimitedwarranty

I didn't drive my car with the OE cam, since the transmission was broken when I bought it, so no comparison. But the lobes were worn so I replaced the cam and the whole timing belt kit. Everything was included which was nice. I did it all myself with excellent online tutorial from Myturbodiesel.com. What a great feeling to have the car start right up and run well. Along with the tune from Kerma I have a nice balance of economy and power. I'm quite pleased.

Bought this after inspecting Camshaft prior to Timing belt change of 2006 Jetta TDI with 193000 miles, Camshaft lobes were very worn out. All the OEM products I found had no mention of correcting the wear problem associated with the original equipment so I selected the Kerma TDI stage 2 Cam shaft. The basic kit came with all the required parts, all parts were in good condition and seemed to be of high quality. I would have liked to have some instructions included with the kit seeming how it was over $1000, however for a $10 membership fee all relevant instructions can be found at "http://www.myturbodiesel.com/wiki/camshaft-lobe-wear-inspection-and-replacement-on-tdi-pd-engine/" As of right now i have 500 miles on my new camshaft and it works great.

There is certainly increased performance with the stage 2 cam shaft, I cant say how much is from the larger stage 2 lobes and how much is due to not haven significantly worn down lobes that the original had but it is a nice improvement. I use the car as a daily driver and try to get high MPGs so i cant speak a lot about the increased performance of the engine, but the MPGs have not gone down, and my Jetta is running better so i am a pleased customer.
