BACK IN STOCK AND SHIPPING!!!! Now comes with a 5 year / Unlimited Mile Warranty with the purchase of our install kit.
Chilled cast material is the industry standard for quality OHC performance cams. It is perfectly suitable for most applications, including the ALH TDI. However, PD engines [like BEW, BHW, BRM , PD130, PD150] subject cams to unique stresses that require, at a minimum, a special forged cam. Our COLT cams are fully machined from forged steel billets. The resulting product is stronger, harder, and tougher than the cam that came in your car from the factory.
These new-from-billet COLT pumpe duse (PD) cams are superior to any oem or oem-style aftermarket replacement camshaft.
Here's a typical customer review. Please note, this particular customer's car has dynoed more than 200 HP at the wheels, but our Colt Billet camshafts will even improve car that are otherwise completely stock:
"Colt stage II cam has been in for a day now. It's been hot (90+) but I can see the smoke level is down"
The original equipment Pumpe Duse camshafts, in particular, have developed a reputation for premature wear. While the oils used, cold starts, and other user-dependent variables can influence the life of your Pumpe duse camshaft, many if not most of the premature failures can be traced to what many consider to be an inherently flawed design. In fact, most of our customers didn't come looking for a performance cam, but instead find us after they discover they need to replace it out of necessity!
One problem: OEM style PD cams have a severe initial ramp angle that exacerbates the problems inherent in the shallow hardness depth found in the OEM cams and oem-style replacements. COLT optimizes the cam lobe geometry to reduce the high loads in this area of the cam profile. COLT pioneered this often-copied innovation, which can't be found in an OEM-spec cam! (or "regrinds" of an OEM cam)
Also consider: Our Colt Cams start as a solid forged blank (or "billet" if you will) with inherently superior metallurgy. The "budget" aftermarket OEM oem-style replacements (and any regrinds based on them) are based on cheap to manufacture, but much less durable, chill cast materials. In the PD cars, chilled cast cams will not provide the long service life that TDI owners have come to expect, because any hardness is only "skin deep". By comparison: The base metal used in Colt cams is already tougher than oem, and induction hardening, to a depth of several times that found in other cams, ensures unrivaled wear characteristics. Although others may offer extra-cost "add-on" treatments as a way to compensate for the soft materials, all of our new from billet Colt Cams come with superior materials and hardened surfaces at no extra cost.
Colt Cams solve these problems for once and for all- THIS IS THE LAST CAMSHAFT YOU WILL EVER HAVE TO BUY!! The combination of superior materials and optimized geometry allows us to offer a 5 year /unlimited mile warranty when a COLT CAM is purchased with one of our installation kits!! For most people this is effectively a lifetime warranty. Even if you didn't come looking for a performance cam, a new COLT will provide the peace of mind that comes from knowing that you will never have to worry about your cam again, for as long as you are likely to own your car.
We have no reservations about calling these the finest camshafts you can buy for your TDI powered car with Pumpe Duse unit injectors. We are proud to be the exclusive distributor of these ultimate billet PD cams in the USA.
NOTE!! This is not a “regrind” from a used OEM or soft, cast iron, aftermarket cam that has been plated! These are NEW Induction hardened camshafts hardened to a depth of several times that found in the OEM cams for unrivaled wear resistance. Optimized cam lobe geometry reduces valve train stresses associated with the OEM cam lobe profiles which lead to premature wear in the Pumpe Duse (PD) engines.

DELUXE KIT NOW INCLUDES VALVE COVER GASKET
Please note: This list is for the BEW Deluxe kit. The BHW kit only comes with the locking nuts for the roller and tensioner and harmonic balancer bolts as far as the timing belt kit hardware is concerned. Also part #s are different for the remaining parts of BHW timing belt kit and some of the filters in the deluxe kit.
Be careful: There are many so called Performance Camshafts available in the market today at half the manufacturing cost of a quality steel billet camshafts like these. While this results in higher profits for the retailer, those El-cheapo Camshafts are not simply designed to handle the unique stress that is applied in a VW TDI cam, which can result in premature failure to the cam lobe areas.
Note: VW PD engines [like BEW, BHW, BRM , PD130, PD150] require a special cam made a fully machined from bar stock steel billets. We are the exclusive supplier of these ultimate billet PD cams.
Our new-from-billet cams certainly qualify as over-the top in our quality and materials. We did more than we had to and as a result these cams should outlast your car.
BREAK IN PROCEDURE
Cam Lube on all lobes, lifter faces, distributor gears and oil pump gears.
Oil all bearing journals and lifter barrels.
Always turn engine over by hand before starting, check for clearances and
proper timing location.
Fire up to 1800 2000 r.p.m. for 18 20 minutes.
If you're not sure whether you have a 1 or 2 hole fuel filter, please leave the last 6 numbers of your VIN in the MESSAGE section. This option is only applicable if you order the deluxe install kit
I replaced the cam with the delux kit. I also did the timing belt. I followed the instructions on myturbodiesel.com and they were easy to follow and complete. The complete job took me about 7 hours to complete. I split it up over a few nights after work and double checked all my work. When I started the engine I had a cel on that cleared on its own after about 10 key cycles.
My car is a beetle that has 80,000 mile on it. The original cam had some damage when I inspected it and some on my lifters were dished. Working on the beetle is a pain due to clearances but keeping everything organized and all the bolts bagged and labeled helps make things go smoothly.
I didn't know if I could do this job on my own and now I am confident that I can Brandan C on 4th Mar 2018
Did the complete install with the advanced method and everything worked perfectly! Next will be some sort of tune. Unknown on 25th Feb 2018
HAD A LOBE START TO WEAR ON THE STOCK CAM AND REPLACED IT WITH A STAGE 2. CAR RUNS GREAT AND HAS A NICE SMOOTH IDLE. I NOTICED A SLIGHT INCREASE IN POWER AT 3K RPM AND UP, NOTHING MAJOR BUT NOTICABLE.
YES, THIS CAM AND INSTALL KIT IS EXPENSIVE BUT THE QUALITY OF THE CAM, PIECE OF MIND KNOWING THIS IS THE LAST CAM YOU'LL EVER NEED, AND THE SLIGHT POWER GAIN ARE DEFINEATELY WORTH IT.
IT WOULD BE NICE IF THE INSTALL KIT CAME WITH THE VW TOOLS BUT YOU DON'T NEED THEM!!! I'M NOT A MECHANIC BUT I GREW UP IN A GARAGE SO THIS INSTALL WASN'T THAT COMPLICATED FOR ME. I SIMPLY MADE THE TOOLS I NEEDED AND TOOK MY TIME PAYING ATTENTION TO WHAT I DID... I'M ALSO A QUADRIPLEGIC AND IN A WHEELCHAIR!
IN ALL, YES THIS IS EXPENSIVE BUT YOU GET WHAT YOU'RE PAYING FOR! AAA+++

First thing the deluxe kit should definitely come with a valve cover gasket. I work at a dealer so I had the special tools to do the job, it wasn't an issue for me, but heads up if you don't have the special tools, I would say get a cam lock, and puller for the cam sprocket. The rest can be marked. Over all good kit and im very happy with it all. Got my pass wag back on the road again thanks! Stephen Campbell on 25th Oct 2016
All right, my BEW had a lifter fail and ended up eating my cam, but whatever, things happen. I was looking around and decided to get the Stage 2 Colt cam with the deluxe kit (my timing belt was soon due for change.) Relatively easy for a seasoned mechanic. The cam break-in was easy with minimal pain. I am a complete fan of the product itself, but when you are spending $1430.00, I think it would be a great idea to have... Oh, I don't know some tech data, or the valve cover gasket or even the tools to complete the job. If you are leaning towards purchasing a cam, you have to look for the cam rig pin, the crank lock down, the tensioner (timing) hold back pin, the tensioner (serpentine) hold back pin, the cam sprocket hold back tool, and the cam pulley puller. Personally I think this kit was oversold. If I am spending that amount of money for a repair please provide everything to do the job right so the DIYer's aren't wondering is everything good. Other than those gripes I am wildly impressed with the cam itself. It gives plenty of low to mid-range power and even more at the top end. Good luck! Devon Penrod on 29th Mar 2015
